We went with friends to see "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" on Saturday and really enjoyed it. It was fascinating to see Darwinists try to explain the formation of the very first cell. I don't want to be a spoiler for those who haven't seen it, so be forewarned...following is the answer to the burning question of how we came to be on this planet without the design of a supernatural being. The Darwinists realize how improbable it was for something so complex to be created by proteins somehow combining in the right order (so crazy improbable that it reaches near zero probability), so they hypothesize that...the aliens did it. Yes, aliens seeded earth with life. Or, another possibility, was that crystals somehow rubbed together? Did I get that right? We were formed by crystals?

This is, to me, why it takes so much more faith to be an atheist than to be a believer in God.

Sadly, the scientific community won't allow alternative theories for origins into the classroom so they continue forcing the evolutionary square peg into the round hole of origins. It doesn't fit, but by golly they're going to keep hammering away!

I don't mind evolution being taught in science classes...it is a beautiful explanation for how we adapt to our environs. But when you take it beyond that to explain how species evolve into other species, and all from a single cell that somehow miraculously created itself by accident...that is simply passing a lie along as truth and needs to be stopped. They have no idea how life began and need to cease and desist immediately teaching false science to impressionable students.

And they need to stop firing (expelling) teachers and researchers who DARE question the premises behind Darwinist thought.

Jayhawks buoyed by Coach Self's faith

SAN ANTONTIO (BP)--Before Kansas goes for its first NCAA championship in 20 years, the Jayhawks players will watch more video of the Memphis Tigers and review their game plan one last time.

But one Kansas player, freshman guard Tyrel Reed will engage in what he sees as an equally critical preparation -- reading his Bible and joining the team in prayer.

"I can't play a game unless I read my Bible first," Reed told Baptist Press

The Jayhawks, coached by Bill Self, a professing Christian, punched their ticket to the national title game with a semifinal rout of North Carolina , but despite the joy of victory, a number of Kansas coaches and players are keeping their focus on the main thing regardless of tonight's outcome.

"God has given us this platform and He deserves all the glory," assistant coach Kurtis Townsend said. "We're going to give the glory to Him."

Townsend added, "Tuesday morning we're still going to be praising Him. It's another opportunity to witness to others and to know God."

Assistant coach Ronnie Chalmers, a Wayland Baptist University graduate, said he marvels at how God has placed the team at the brink of NCAA glory.

"I'm a big believer that God has a plan for this team. I've been spending a lot of time with my pastor, and our prayer is, What you do, do it well," Chalmers said.

Chalmers and others praised Self not for his bold, verbal witness, but for setting a moral and Christian standard for the team.

"The Bible says it helps when two or more are in agreement," Chalmers said.

"God will be there also. Coach Self, Coach Townsend and myself, we don't pray together, but we each pray and His Word says the Spirit dwells within us."

While Kansas players and coaches pray before and after every game, as many teams do, they also pray before every practice.

"We've been doing that ever since Coach Self got here," Townsend said.

Junior center Matt Kleinmann said he traveled with Self when the coach gave his testimony at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes coaches forum two years ago, and he felt blessed to be playing for a fellow Christian.

"Sometimes with a coach, there is a bunch of yelling back and forth, but it's good to talk with them as a Christian brother," Kleinmann said.

Neither Kleinmann nor Reed start for the Jayhawks, but each said their faith keeps them grounded in the highs and lows of college basketball.

"These players have overcome a lot to be here," Kleinmann said. "I've seen a lot of guys grow in their faith on this team and that's thanks to Him."

Townsend's faith was tested when he was fired as an assistant coach at the University of Miami after only one year following the 2004 season.

"Being fired after only one year is the toughest thing possible," Townsend said, "but we don't always know what is best."

The following year, Self was hired at Kansas and one of his first hires was Townsend as an assistant coach.

Townsend said he learned of how God blesses a faithful witness 15 years ago -- and being on the brink of a national title was only the latest chapter in his faith journey.

"Fifteen years ago, I was an assistant coach at California making $1,200 a month and looking for a career change. I had a faith-filled wife and she said we needed to pray and tithe our money. I found when you tithe your money, even $1,200, God will stretch it for all you need," Townsend recounted.

"I had never even been to the Final Four in 17 years and now I have a front row seat for the final game. I'm a man of faith because I know God's way works best."

What an amazing, memorable game. That shot! That ONE SHINING MOMENT!

Chalmers, who may have otherwise gone away as another small part of KU history has etched his name as one of the greatest heroes of the Kansas game.

Here's a nice story from the ESPN article:

Ronnie Chalmers reached into his pocket for some divine guidance.
On a piece of paper, he'd written two verses from Psalms: 46:10 and 46:1. He pulled them out and read them to himself.
"Be still, and know that I am God," reads 46:10.
"God is a refuge and strength. A very present help in trouble," reads 46:1.
"We were in trouble at that time," Ronnie said.

While I'm not sure God was rooting for the Jayhawks last night (well, of COURSE he was!), but it's nice that the Chalmers know who to turn to when they are in trouble.

And though I think Mario's miracle shot made its way through his skill rather than God's hand, a lot of Kansans were throwing prayers toward the heavens in that brief moment.

Abortion bill gets first round approval

A new abortion bill aimed at better policing and reducing late term abortions in Kansas has been moved forward in the Kansas House by a voice vote. Rep. Lance Kinzer sponsors the bill (he's been probably the strongest ally Christian conservatives have in the Kansas House).

Contact your reps and encourage them to get this bill passed. This bill also requires additional information about the fetus be provided to the mother's prior to an abortion. A very good bill indeed.

Two bills had hearings in House Fed & State this past week, HB 2615 & HB 2736. The first would make it abundantly clear what must be reported as to the actual justification of the late term abortion. Right now providers are getting away with just repeating the statute. This bill is a direct result of the special committee meeting last summer, on which I posted two reports: A lesson in how Kansas Government Plays "Pass the Buck" and Her Name is Michelle.The other bill, 2736, would add several good provisions such as the mother being offered the option of seeing the ultrasound if one is used at any point before or during the abortion. After sitting through the testimony of both the proponents of the bills, who gave ample reasons why we should pass them and then the opponents, who offered nothing to justify not passing the bills, one would presume both bills could get out of committee. At this point, though, their future is not known.

A House committee is discussing a comprehensive bill that would require doctors to offer women the chance to see an ultrasound before an abortion. Why shouldn't they see an ultrasound? Don't doctors typically show x-rays of the area that is going to be operated on? Of course opponents don't want women to see that what they are destroying actually looks like a human.

This article says Kay Lyn Carlson is based in KC, but she's actually based in Topeka. She had an abortion when she was 17 and now counsels women and men after they have abortions. She is supporting this bill, as we all should. Contact your rep and ask them to support it.

Domestic partnership laws in Kansas

Tomorrow the state House of Reps will have floor debate in the Kansas House on HB2299, Rep. Lance Kinzer's bill that would stop local units of government from establising domestic partnership laws. It would also invalidate the existing Lawrence ordinance. This is a bill that needs your support and your phone calls to your own rep.

Kinzer says "Domestic relations is an area of the law traditionally reserved to the State. State laws define marriage, and govern matters such as divorce and child custody. It has not traditionally been the practice in Kansas to allow local governments to develop their own ordinances and resolutions in these areas. Indeed, the entirety of Chapter 23 of the Kansas Statutes is dedicated to setting forth uniform laws for the governance of domestic relations in Kansas."

It was pretty awesome that Huckabee blew McCain out here in Kansas. That was a boomlet if nothing else. Sure, unless McCain melts down and says something outrageously stupid he's going to be the GOP nominee, but Kansas told him what we thought anyway. Bwah ha ha ha.

Here's the email letter I received from our dear Senator Sam Brownback on his support for John McCain:

Dear Friend:

As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I know how important it is for our president to appoint men and women to the court who will not legislate from the bench.

We've seen the consequences of overreaching judges who have created a right to same-sex marriage and even a right to abortion.

The presidential election will determine nothing less than the future of the Supreme Court. We can go from being one justice away from overturning Roe v. Wade to being two or even three justices away. There are also so many other important issues in front of the court- property rights, the Second Amendment, faith in the public square - just to name a few.

I have fought these battles in the Senate with John McCain. He is no recent convert to the cause - John McCain is a consistent conservative you can trust. John McCain and I stood side-by-side to confirm John Roberts and Sam Alito to the Court, and I know that as president, John McCain will appoint justices with a strict constructionist view of the Constitution.

When I raised my concerns at the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court in 2005, few other Republican Senators would join me at that critical time. John McCain was one of them.

John McCain knows that among a president's most lasting legacies are the men and women he appoints to the courts. Not only does John McCain stand strong on the issues, but he can win in November. More so than any other Republican candidate, the polls show that John McCain can beat Hillary or Obama in the general election.

Tiller finally takes a hit

From KansasLiberty.com: Last week, the judge presiding over the Wichita grand jury investigating abortionist George Tiller ruled Friday that Tiller must hand over records that the grand jury subpoenaed in its investigation into the legality of some of Tiller's late-term abortions. The ruling is a severe set-back for Tiller who has so far refused to surrender the documents required by the state to monitor compliance with Kansas law.

It's good news, finally, that Tiller must show his cards so that perhaps the light can be turned on his illegal actions. It's bad enough to be an abortionist who makes a living killing babies LEGALLY. To push the envelope to even kill the babes that Kansas' loosy-goosy laws don't allow is atrocious.

Let's continue to pray that through the legal channels, he will be exposed for what he is and his practice will be shut down.

Boy, that sure sounds good. It's not really true, but let's not let facts get in the way of a good politician. What is a "common sense conservative" -- is this like the issue of Bush's "compassionate conservatism"? Isn't conservatism by its very nature compassionate? Why do we need to define it like that? Isn't conservatism by its very nature common sense? (well, common sense among thinking people).

Anyway, things I CAN like about McCain:

He seems to have been consistently pro-life, from what I understand.
He thinks tax cuts should be paired with spending cuts.
He gets the backing of people who think protecting our country from Islamic fascists is their top priority.

What I CAN'T like:

Proud of teaming with Kennedy.
Proud of teaming with Feingold (to ROB us of free speech rights).
He slammed us Christian conservatives and makes no effort to reach out with an olive branch (maybe he'll make Huckabee his Veep? I kinda doubt it...I think he'll pick the Florida gov).
He was endorsed by the New York Times, who certainly does NOT have the best interests of the Republican party at heart.

Sigh. Whatever do we do? As a Christian and political junkie, I'm bummed. I love election years, love presidential campaigns, and just want to get jazzed about our nominee. Now I'm hearing the pundits say that McCain is likely 75% of the way toward the nominee. I am still holding out hope for Huckabee or Romney.

State of the Race

Bemoaning...where oh where did my Republican Party go?

It really started slipping away with our own Sam Brownback endorsing John McCain. No, it started when our elected Republicans began acting like Democrats, but in the actual race for the presidency it started with Sam throwing his own personal convictions into the toilet to support a Senate colleague who brought us McCain/Feingold and McCain/Kennedy and McCain/Lierberman.

Now REAL Republicans, the conservatives in South Carolina and Florida, picked McCain too! You are getting in bed with someone who will be very disappointing to you people! I'd vote for him over Hillary...maybe. My big issue is the Supreme Court, and McCain is too enthralled with pleasing the media and his liberal friends to nominate anyone who will keep the Constitution intact.

With McCain at the top of our ticket, that's when us true-blue conservatives are going to have to make a choice between some third party candidate, holding our nose to vote for McCain (which won't gain us much in the way of court nominees and personal liberties), or letting the Dems have it so they can wreck their havoc for a couple years and we'll be positioned for a come-back in 2 years with Congress.

Do Republicans not remember 1996 when we nominated a cranky old moderate Republican war veteran to go up against a Clinton? Hmmm...what was his name? Oh yeah! Bob Dole!

They think McCain is the only one who can beat Hillary? You're so afraid of Hillary that you will dump your own conservative passions and nominate McCain? Didn't the Dems do that last time with Kerry? They thought HE was Mr. Electable, but there wasn't a great deal of passion on the part of the base...the passion was with Howard Dean.

If you choose McCain, who will not engender any passion on the part of the base, we're doomed...even if he wins. There's no way to win with McCain at the top of the ticket. If he loses, we lose. If he wins, he'll wreck the Republican party even more and we'll lose big...perhaps permanently.

On Thursday, Phillip Cosby of National Coalition for the Protection of Families has a lunch meeting in Topeka with about ten Kansas House and Senate legislators to discuss bills and strategies on how to better help parents and protect our communities from the damaging effects of the highly sexualized messages of the culture. Romans Chapter 13: 1-7 outlines that public safety is “job one” for civil authorities. Pray for Phillip to have a fruitful meeting with these courageous legislators.

Democrats feel "relevant"

The Democrats say they are feeling "relevant" this year. When I read that headline, I thought they must have had some heavy hitters come to town, or at least have plans to perhaps see the candidates themselves show up in the state! Considering how Kansas normally gets completely ignored by the candidates (unless they happen to be Kansans like Bob Dole or Sam Brownback), that would be a real coup!

Here are the list of heavy hitters who were pimping for their candidates at the Democrat bean feed (I'll bite my tongue on that one):

For Obama: Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn.
For Clinton: Carmen Alldritt, director of vehicles for the Kansas Department of Revenue-Division of Motor Vehicles
For Edwards: Ronald McVeigh, a longtime Democrat from Olathe

Relevant indeed! Wow. They really sent in the Big Dogs!

A sidebar to the article indicated that Obama would be in Kansas for Kansas Day. They're going to have a townhall meeting before the Democrat Caucus on Feb 5.

That's better, I guess, than last time when John Edwards (then the veep candidate) came training through for a whistle stop in Lawrence in the middle of the night, but was late for a more important state so didn't stop and left his supporters standing there at the train station watching his train buzz by.

There were rallies at the statehouse yesterday...for those supporting life issues and those who are AGAINST life. Wow...how do you get out of bed and motivate yourself to go and rally FOR killing babies? How does that become your passion?

As the by-product of a rendezvous among college students in a dorm room who was subsequently adopted by a very nice family, I'm quite glad my bio-mom chose life. Sure, she could have aborted me before birth or suffocated me with a pillow immediately after--both with the same result--and I wouldn't be around to appreciate the decision she made. But as a proud former-fetus, I enjoy the life and breath that God gives me and am thankful for each day that I have been blessed to live because of the difficult decision my mother had to make.

Huckabee wins Iowa

Way to go Huck! Big win tonight in Iowa! The conventional wisdom has now become that he is a one trick pony, and now that he's moving on to less evangelical territory, his victories will be few and far between. I hope these "analysts" are mis-reading things. I'd like to think that a deep thinking person that relates to average people has stronger legs than just among the Baptists of the country.

That said, congrats to evangelicals in Iowa, and thanks for showing up. When Christians show up at the polls, we can make a big difference. Imagine how different our nation may look today if Christians would have gone to the polls in 2006.

Tomorrow's Iowa Caucus

I've been thinking about tomorrow's first caucus and how having a few states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina select the nominees for the rest of the country...or at least weed out candidates before they get to our state...seems a bit unfair. We are supposed to have equal say in who picks our leaders, and we do in the general election (for the most part), but absolutely not in the candidate selection process.

While Iowans are being hammered by phone calls, ads and personal appearances, Kansans will likely never see a single presidential candidate wooing us for our votes. Perhaps a midnight appearance at the Wichita or Kansas City airports.

I think it would be good to break it up into regional primaries, which would have the benefit of keeping candidates working states in a specific area for awhile, reducing their travel expenses and enabling locals throughout the region to see and hear from the candidates, and then the caravans move to the next region. There would be enough delegates in each region to enable someone who does poorly in the Midwest region to recover in the Northeast. The current scattershot approach of Iowa one week, New Hampshire the next, then South Carolina and then a bunch of states on one day means the vast majority of Americans will (a) not have much, if any, say in who their party's nominee is and (b) won't be exposed to them during the selection process other than the soundbites they pick up on the news.

The funny thing is that we seem to look for the next Reagan, which isn't out there, but if someone with his exact same personal and political background (that had seen its share of flopping on social issues) came along now, we would not call him Reaganesque because of the mythology and mystique we've created around Reagan. I don't know who I'd vote for yet, but I guess I don't have to decide. Iowans will pick for me!

And I still like to delude myself with the notion that Hillary is not electable. Aren't Americans tired of the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton thing? Do they want that cackle and scandals for the next 4-8 years? Tell me it isn't so! I'm sure she's beatable. Probably the most beatable Democrat out there. I don't think she would wear well during the long duration of the national campaign. She can be as tempered and non-shrill as her advisers convince her to be, but then again someone told her she needed to burst out in spontaneous laughter during interviews. Regardless of how she behaves herself, Republicans will be sure to roll out commercials loaded with cackles and shrill political speeches she's given to remind people what they're really getting.

Awaiting Sebelius' Hand-picked Successor for AG

Well, the wait is on, and there's no way to be disappointed with whoever Sebelius picks to replace Morrison as Attorney General. I was one that didn't celebrate when Morrison resigned. From what I understand from insiders, even though I don't agree with his political positions, he took his job seriously and didn't run a very political office. When Kline was defeated, we knew we weren't going to have an AG with the fire in the belly to go after the abortion industry...Tiller specifically. But now what? Sebelius, who is CERTAINLY in Tiller's back pocket, gets to pick his replacement. Gee, I wonder what's going to happen here? We can't be disappointed by the pick because we know what to expect. It doesn't matter who it is, we can be sure our cause won't be advanced with the selection.

Rep. Boyda on the Fairness Doctrine

I wrote to Rep. Nancy Boyda about my concerns about efforts to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, which is an effort to silence conservative voices on talk radio by forcing broadcasters to provide alternative views (the result of which would be programming so lame and uninteresting to the consumers who have flocked to conservative programming because their views aren't found elsewhere that they would turn off the radio).

Here is her response:

Thank you for your interest in the recent House action prohibiting the use of federal money to enforce the Fairness Doctrine. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on the issues facing Congress.

America's founders understood that democracy depends on the free dissemination of ideas and information. They enshrined that principle in the First Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits Congress from making any law ".abridging the freedom of speech or of the press." Throughout our history, newspapers, books and magazines have provided the widest array of fact and opinion to the public, making dissenting views accessible to all.

With the development of radio and television, the limited availability of the airwaves made it impossible for all persons who wanted broadcast licenses to get them. The Radio Act of 1927, authorized the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to issue broadcast licenses only if it would serve the "public convenience, interest or necessity." Persons who acquired licenses were considered public trustees, responsible for operating in the public interest. They were required to demonstrate "due regard for the opinions of others."

In 1949, the FCC formally adopted this policy as the Fairness Doctrine. It became federal law in 1959 when Congress amended the Communications Act of 1934. Much of the doctrine was aimed at ensuring fair treatment for political candidates. Stations were not required to provide equal time to opposing views, to have an equally balanced programming schedule or to have each program internally balanced. It did, however, require broadcasters "to afford a reasonable opportunity for discussion of conflicting views on matters of public importance."

In 1987, as a result of deregulation efforts as well as the increase in cable television channels, the FCC ended the Fairness Doctrine. Congress attempted to re-establish it as law earlier that year, but did not have enough votes to override President Reagan's veto. Since then, broadcast licensees have not had to abide by the Fairness Doctrine.

Recently, Representative Mike Pence of Indiana proposed an amendment to the Financial Services and General Governmental FY 2008 Appropriations Act, to prohibit the use of federal funds to enforce the Fairness Doctrine. The House passed the amendment 309-115. I voted against the amendment because it was unnecessary. The Fairness Doctrine does not exist now.

I am, however, very concerned about the effect of consolidation on media ownership. When the stations owning the airwaves are concentrated in the hands of a few, it makes it very difficult for people to find avenues of information that offer differing points of view. I firmly believe that each person should stay informed on current events and social issues and our responsibility to seek out multiple media sources to make informed decisions.

Let me be clear - I do not oppose conservative talk radio. I appear once a month on the Jim Cates Show and enjoy the conversation tremendously. I am concerned that it is becoming more difficult for all viewpoints to participate in the "marketplace of ideas" that our founding fathers envisioned two centuries ago. Democracy thrives when we all get involved.

My reply to her is simply that conservative talk radio IS fairness...at least provides a sliver of it when conservative viewpoints and information can be found in so few places. A true fairness doctrine would force the editorial decision makers in the mainstream press to provide balance in their coverage. But, of course, those who do offer conservative viewpoints are sneered at for being shills for the right.

I don't agree with Rep. Boyda on hardly anything, but I will give her credit for always being willing to answer questions.

According to today’s news story below the Kansas Supreme court has issued a temporary injunction against a grand jury in Wichita from being impaneled to investigate allegations of abortionist George Tiller…

Indications seem to be that the KS Supreme court wants those same Wichita judges that found the citizen petition to be in proper form to now go beyond the boundary’s set by the legislature, stop the summoning of a lawfully petitioned grand jury and have select judges inquire now into the allegations. This crosses the line as stated by the KS Statute that the judges only authority at this point is to find the petition in order, or not. The very intent of the grand jury process is for the people to inquire into probable cause when authorities will not. Corruption is at the heart of the reason for a citizens grand jury petition system.

Excerpt from KS Statute 22-3001 “The judge or judges of the district court of the county shall then consider the petition and, if it is found that the petition is in proper form and bears the signatures of the required number of electors, a grand jury shall be ordered to be summoned.”

The Kansas Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the start of a Sedgwick County grand jury to investigate abortion provider George Tiller.

The court’s order today stops the grand jury from starting its work until the court can decide if the panel should convene. The grand jury had been scheduled to begin its work next Tuesday.

The order by Chief Justice Kay McFarland was in response to a petition filed by Dr. Tiller, who is one of the nation’s few late-term abortion providers.

Abortion opponents accuse Tiller of violating a 1998 state law restricting late-term abortions, an allegation his attorneys repeatedly have said is unfounded.

I marched with him in parades when he made his first run for Congress and think a lot of him, but even I couldn't get too jazzed about his presidential prospects. I'm glad he's backing out, which may provide some steam to Huckabee and boost him toward becoming a first tier candidate.

He now has his sights on the governorship, and that's where it probably should have been all along. I'm looking forward to congratulating Governor Brownback!

Condoms in our schools

I'm sure these school officials are well intentioned, and they see the reality of sexual activity more than we do, but usurping parental authority and making it EASIER to engage in risky sexual activity is not the purpose of our public schools. My tax dollars are buying condoms that enable kids to do something they shouldn't be doing, and make them feel safer while doing it.

I'm glad my kids' school isn't doing that. Of course, they're too young at this point and when they do "come of age" I hope they'll live up to the purity I expect of them and God expects of them. But if I go visit my kids' school and see a basket of condoms on the counter, I will blow a gasket. Guaranteed. There are other places to go for kids who are sexually active.

Schools act as if they can't teach morality in schools, but how is handing a kid a condom NOT teaching them a moral lesson?

If there is one thing we all as Americans are dismayed at it is the decreasing number of citizens engaged and participating in our government. Is it that they feel increasingly disconnected or powerless to effect change?

In the last four years in Kansas about nine grand juries have been petitioned by the people. Some would tell you the sky is falling and scream “abuse” even when those grand juries, after examining the evidence are delivering indictments. Is the unpredictable chaos of common people being within reach of a lever of power unsettling to elites?

Let’s compare apples with apples. In Kansas, grand juries are only impaneled by a petition of the people or by a majority of the judges in a particular judicial district (even more rare). In Missouri grand juries are “standing,” that is in many MO counties (like Clay & Jackson Counties) every six months a new grand jury is sworn in. Missouri prosecutors are constantly putting cases before those GJs to seek indictments. In Missouri in any given year there are hundreds of Grand Juries. It is commonplace, routine... almost boring. Nine grand juries in Kansas in four years vs. hundreds in a year in Missouri. “Abuse” is not the correct word in Kansas, it is novel, rare and unique.

Who in America would demand that such a pure form of access to the judicial branch of government be moved further out of reach of the people? The Kansas legislators believed that the common people should have access to power and have put within their reach one way to touch the system. Just because some special interests don’t like a subject of investigation, would you deny the people that right of access to power or leave all power in the hands of elites. Sometimes you just got to trust common people to move when elected officials don’t have the political character, a true measure of citizen concerns or the will to enforce the law. Do we really want to relegate all power to the state?

I had to chuckle at the thought of someone being so dismayed at a group of concerned citizens using the legal system to investigate a public injustice. That is exactly what Kansas lawmakers envisioned and encouraged when the power to participate in the legal system was legislated awarding a grand jury by petition process. It is a very pure form of a government "of, by and for the people" that engages the judicial system.

Grand jury indicts three businesses

Kansas City Star Wed. Aug. 29th

A Wyandotte County grand jury investigating obscenity handed down indictments against three Kansas City, Kan. shops, the district attorney’s office announced Wednesday.

M&M Inc., a convenience store at 8535 State Ave.; Krishna U.S.A., doing business as Smoke Easy Cigarette Outlet, 6000 Leavenworth Road; and Lakhani Commercial Corp., doing business as the Stop ’n’ Go, 954 State Ave., were named in the indictments.

M&M Inc. is charged with a single misdemeanor count of promoting obscenity. Smoke Easy is charged with two misdemeanor counts of promoting obscenity and one felony and one misdemeanor count of possession with intent to deliver drug paraphernalia. The Stop ’n’ Go was charged with a single count of possession with intent to deliver drug paraphernalia.

The indictments came as the result of a citizen petition drive that called for grand jury investigations into promotion of obscenity by 32 businesses, including strip clubs, sex shops and video rental stores throughout six metropolitan area counties.

None of the businesses included in the charges announced Wednesday was among the 32 targeted by the petitions.

The Kansas City Chapter of National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families, an anti-pornography group, led the petition effort, backed by a legion of churches and religious groups.

A grand jury also was convened in Johnson County to address the issue. It has not handed down indictments on obscenity cases yet but has weighed in on other cases.

The grand jury in Wyandotte County is thought to be the first in 40 years. The one in Johnson County is the first since 1989. Although Missouri law does not require a grand jury to be convened because of citizen petitions, Clay County also has consented to bring the cases to a grand jury.

Jurors in the three counties will make judgments that will essentially set the standards for obscenity for their Kansas communities, legal observers say.

The use of a grand jury is seen as controversial to those who say that judges are better qualified to decide who should stand trial and that defendants should have the right to hear the evidence against them. Grand juries listen to cases in confidence.

Others say that the grand jury is a helpful prosecutorial tool that should be used more often.

All three indicted businesses are scheduled to appear on Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. in District Court for a pretrial conference.

Wyandotte update

Coalition Friends,

Wyandotte County's Grand Jury announced today that they did not indict three of the stores but they did indict two others for "promotion of obscenity." It is a strange mix as to what they did. It is not a home run for Wyandotte County...but they got on base. Wyandotte County is on it way to a "community standard" trial, baring any out of court plea bargin. This brings to sixteen the number of pornography outlets in Kansas facing trials for the crime of promoting obscenity. The porn shops that escaped this investigation should not rest too easy, we can always have another grand jury take another look on another day.

One satisfying statement from a reporter today was, "good job, don't give up". There are friends in many places if we look for them.

In the KC area we are still waiting to hear what Johnson County KS. and Clay County MO. Grand juries will do. Jackson County MO. is moving slowing to a decision point and the Cass County Prosecutor has tossed the ball to the Belton Police Chief who in turn is waiting to hear from his citizens before moving. Battle won in war against Topeka porn outlet

Significant breaking news out of the Shawnee County “Promotion of Obscenity” case (Topeka)! The pornography outlet “Priscilla’s” boasted that the Topeka grand jury indictments and charges would not make it through the pre-trial motions and claimed the case would be tossed by a judge for various reasons, including Priscilla’s attorneys objections that the Kansas “Promotion of Obscenity” law was unconstitutional.

Now the good part…the Shawnee County judge upheld the case on ALL points and it has survived the pre-trial objections! Now “Priscilla’s” will be scheduled to face criminal charges in an open trial with no more delays.

Here are the written words of the Shawnee County District Attorney, Robert Hecht in a letter to the citizens of Topeka dated August 21^st…

“ I believe this ruling will be controlling and adhered to by all other judges in all other similar cases pending within this judicial district.” (There are five more pornography outlets facing the same criminal charges in Shawnee County) “It may well also be persuasive in other judicial districts in Kansas where similar cases may be pending”…”I trust you agree with the efforts of this office in these regards and will remain involved in the effort to improve our community and the safety of our citizens.”

When ”Priscilla’s” in Wichita was indicted by Wichita’s grand jury the owner of the Priscilla’s chain called and threatened the Mayor of Wichita that he would remove all of their pornography outlets from Wichita and possibly Kansas to punish the Kansas economy. The mayor offered to help him pack and laughed.

Pray for the cases and grand juries in Wichita, Kansas City metro (MO & KS) and other communities that have the salt to take a stand against this moral cancer, this wicked stronghold, to prevail in earthly and heavenly places. “On earth as it is in heaven”. Silence is consent.

The National Education Association has spelled out its political agenda, and the ABCs of it is Anything But Christianity. Promoting homosexuality...yes! Teaching "safe sex" in school (without parental consent)...yes! Giving parents more control over what their kids are taught...no! Homeschools...no!

This organization is about as anti-Christian as the ACLU, and much of their agenda has nothing to do with educating kids. The organization that represents and shapes the message fed to those who teach our children on a daily basis is a socialist, anti-American, anti-Christian group with lots of money. The "Emergent Church" and the War Against Radical Islam

An interesting column was published in Townhall today about the "emergent church" movement and its unwitting role as an ally to the radical element of Islam that would see us all dead.

I first heard of this movement a few months ago and had to Google it to learn what it was all about. It's not a church at all, but an effort to tear traditional Christianity apart from the inside out. They can infiltrate the church with their belief in non-belief (no such thing as absolute truth...it's unknowable). We see what happens to churches who don't have anything to believe in--they fade away. If the modern Christian church isn't unwavering in its doctrine, we will still be the key voice for freedom throughout the world and a strong proponent of any effort that prevents the spread of radical Islam. If, however, we become wishy washy and don't know what we believe or why we believe it, we'll join the rest of the world in accepting anybody's version of truth and will face the consequences of a passionate Islam spreading in a world full of ambivalent and permissive Christians, agnostics and atheists.

I am taking a class at church on worldviews, and we've been focusing on Secular Humanism. We're moving into Marxist-style views. I received a message from the teacher that I thought included some interesting background that I thought I'd share on the blog...

As we move on from Secular Humanism to look at Post Modern Marxism, we'll actually look at a few different varieties of this worldview, all founded in the philosophies of Karl Marx. We talked tonight a bit about Jean Jacques Rousseau and his erroneous philosophy, pleasant as it is, that humans are basically good, society has corrupted man, and that by eliminating the corrupting influences of competition and pride from within social institutions, we could achieve a utopian society where everyone is free, and yet we all sacrifice our own wills for the "general will." This is somewhat contradictory, but Rousseau was and is pretty influential among philosophers and his work influenced Karl Marx as he developed a comprehensive ideology.

Marx agreed that humans are basically good, but the part of society that corrupts humankind is the exploitation of the working class by property owners. Marxism is grounded in atheism. As Paul Kurtz said in one of our earlier sessions, no god will save us, we must save our selves. For Marx, this meant that the proletariat needed to unite, overthrow the ruling class, do away with the private ownership of property, and achieve equality for all men. With God out of the picture, morals and ethics boil down to what is good for the group and what achieves the goals of the group. This is a pragmatic view of morality and basically it means if you have to kill a few million people to achieve your utopian dream (some utopia, huh?) then that is the right thing to do. Marx believed that Darwin had figured things out and since we are all just evolving animals, there is no immorality in sacrificing lives to achieve the greater good.

Marx was a lifelong student of history, but as with all other disciplines, there is a philosophy underlying the study of history. Marx's was one of materialism in the sense that all of history was driven by economic factors and the pursuit of material gain. In other words, greed and selfishness was what drove history. American history has been revised in this light as well so that the only reason we hear about as the cause for the revolutionary war and our break with England is "No Taxation Without Representation." However, there are about three reasons stated in the Declaration of Independence for our break with England that related to taxes. There were 27 reasons given all together. We never hear about the other 24, do we.? 17 of those had to do with worship and religious freedom. So, Marx's "Historical Materialism" has affected the way we look at history today in this country.

Marx's philosophy is based on the erroneous presumption that all men are basically good, but are corrupt by the exploitation of property owners. Man's redemption comes from giving all people economic parity and having the State own all property and the means of production. His is a history of class struggle and warfare. While his economic policies have failed, remember that Marxism is a full-blown worldview. The class struggle has now changed from the proletariat and the ruling class to different "oppressed" minority groups, but Marxism as a set of ideals is very much alive in Western culture today.

Also, keep in mind what the Biblical worldview would say in relation to all of this. In God's eyes, all humans are equal, and He loves us all equally. But because of the Fall, man is bent toward sin. As a result, man's pride and selfishness creates greed and a desire to elevate one's self above others resulting in injustice and inequality. Equality and social justice are things worth striving for, but if your foundational beliefs are erroneous, then the outcomes will never be achievable. As a Christian, I believe that we will never see a utopia in this fundamentally corrupt world. Instead, my hope lies in the perfect Kingdom of God as established by Christ. Of course, this kind of thinking is exactly the kind of thinking that the secular humanists and the Marxists want to eradicate.

Peer-harassed scientist rocks evolutionary boat

In late December 2006, the U.S. House Committee on Government Reform issued an unflattering report on the state of affairs at one of the nation's more cherished institutions.

One day students might study this report – damningly titled "Intolerance and the Politicization of Science at the Smithsonian" – as a turning point in the history of science. For the time being, however, the report and the scandal at the heart of it attract very close to no attention in the media, let alone in the nation's schools.

Says Dr. Richard Sternberg, the Galileo of the Smithsonian scandal, "The press has not wanted to touch [the report]. Things like this aren't supposed to happen."

What did happen to Dr. Sternberg is shocking even by Washington standards. The damage done to his career is real, irreversible and symptomatic of the lengths the science establishment will go to suppress challenges to the most vulnerable of its paradigms, namely Darwinism and its derivatives.

For any number of uneventful years, the evolutionary biologist Sternberg was a member in good standing of that very establishment. Employed by the National Institutes of Health in association with the Smithsonian, he served as the managing editor of the Smithsonian-affiliated journal, Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington.

In 2004, Sternberg chose to publish a tightly argued paper by the Discovery Institute's Dr. Stephen C. Meyer, titled "The Origin of Biological Information and the Higher Taxonomic Categories."

In brief, Meyer contended that neo-Darwinism has failed to provide a convincing explanation for the massive infusion of new genetic information into the fossil record a reported 570 million years ago.

Popularly known as the Cambrian Explosion, this relatively brief period of pre-history witnessed the emergence of most forms of complex animal life, seemingly without any evolutionary trail. To date, evolutionary biologists have made little progress in resolving the mystery of their origins.

Meyer took a stab at it, arguing deductively that only "rational agents" have shown the ability to design and organize functional, information-rich systems. "Natural selection lacks foresight," Meyer continued. "What natural selection lacks, intelligent selection – purposive or goal-directed design – provides."

Shortly before receiving Meyer's paper, Sternberg had attended an in-service training module on the ethics of peer review. What Sternberg took away from the training is that the "peers" selected to review a given paper be neither prejudiced against the topic or partial to it for reasons of self-interest.

Although not himself an intelligent design (ID) theorist or an advocate of the same, Sternberg thought the subject worthy of discussion. He identified three fellow scientists who shared his open-mindedness, though none of them was an ID advocate, either. These scientists offered some useful revisions. Meyer incorporated them, and the paper was published in August 2004.

Given what has happened since, these scientists have chosen to remain anonymous to preserve their careers. After considerable review of the files, however, no one questions the legitimacy of the process.

In publishing Meyer's paper, Sternberg had merely hoped to provoke a good discussion. He was "absolutely not expecting" the hell that rained down upon him with the paper's publication.

Today, almost inevitably, the road to such hell is paved with e-mail. But even by the standards of the contemporary academy, the e-mail campaign to punish Sternberg was an impressively swift and catty one.

One zoologist colleague, for instance, asked their common department head, Dr. Jonathan Coddington, why the heretical Sternberg should be allowed to keep an office, especially one with "a name on it." Prejudiced to the point of paranoia, the zoologist demanded that his own office "be re-keyed."

Coddington handled the affair with all the courage and conviction of a Pontius Pilate. "At present I am not tossing him out," he told his colleagues. "Do you want anything done?"

Coddington's own plan was to meet with Sternberg and "hint that if he had any class he would either entirely desist or resign his appointment." When Sternberg failed to take the hint, Coddington and colleagues settled on a bold plan of petty revenge, death by a thousand academic cuts.

For Sternberg to keep his research associate position, he would have to detail the exact research projects he would be working on, the papers he planned to write, their schedule of completion, the journals to which he would be submitting, a complete list of the specimens and materials he would be using, the catalog numbers for those specimens and materials, the times and dates he would plan to use them, and even his planned office hours.

Finally, yielding to the paranoia, Coddington asked that Sternberg relinquish his set of master keys. As the House Report notes, his colleagues were "very uncomfortable" with Sternberg having keys. "They were afraid that he might break into their offices, stealing or disturbing their materials." The fact that Sternberg had worked there for the last five years without incident pacified no one.

When Sternberg asked if the other research associates were being subjected to the same treatment, Coddington replied, "This is not about the other RAs. This is only about you." He continued, "You are being treated differently, but you know perfectly well why you're being treated differently."

One obvious reason for Sternberg's special treatment was what the House Report describes as "a general anti-religious culture existing at the Museum." Once the Meyer article was published, Coddington and others began to probe into Sternberg's background, asking around to see if he were a closeted "religious fundamentalist" or, God forbid, a "Republican."

In an e-mail of solidarity sent to Coddington, Research Associate Sue Richardson openly complained about her own unhappy tenure in the "Bible Belt." Wrote Richardson, "The most fun we had by far was when my son refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance because of the 'under dog' part."

The House report asks rhetorically, "Would similar expressions of disparagement have been tolerated by Smithsonian officials if directed at a racial minority?" That answer is obvious. A more pointed question would be whether Smithsonian officials would have tolerated comparable comments about Muslims or even Jews. That answer is obvious, too.

These same officials colluded with the National Center for Science Education, or NCSE, a pro-evolution advocacy organization, to discredit the beleaguered editor.

"I will keep an eye on Dr. (von) Sternberg," wrote the Smithsonian's Dr. Hans Sues to the NCSE's Eugenie Scott, "and I'd greatly appreciate it if you or other NCSE specialists could let me [know] about further activities by this gentleman in areas poutside [sic] crustacean systematics."

The extent of this collusion "on government time and with government resources" the House Committee described as "alarming." Nor did Sternberg's colleagues limit their pique to those who needed to know. Indeed, they sent word of his heresy to scientists around the world.

Wrote one Dutch scientist back to a Smithsonian colleague: "These people are coming out and invading our schools, biology classes, museums and now our professional journals. These people to my mind are only a scale up on the fundies of a more destructive kind in other parts of the world."

Ah yes, "these people." Some of them publish papers on intelligent design. Others fly planes into the World Trade Center. The earlier "von" remark suggests a comparison to Nazis as well.

In 2005, the NCSE undertook a more public battle than the quiet guerrilla war it was waging against Sternberg. Along with its legal allies, most notably the ACLU, the NCSE took its campaign to keep America's public schools as free from scientific debate as the Smithsonian to a Pennsylvania town unprepared for the fight.

The NCSE had only to convince one judge of its righteousness, and this it did. In December 2005, Judge John Jones ruled that the Dover School District had somehow breached the United States Constitution by requiring that students "be made aware of the gaps/problems in Darwin's theory and of other theories of evolution including, but not limited to, intelligent design."

As final proof of ID's shortcomings, Jones cited the "complete absence of peer-reviewed publications supporting the theory." Such peer review, the judge continued with a straight face, is "exquisitely important" in the scientific process. That decision cost the Dover Area School Board more than $1 million in legal fees, payable to the ACLU and its allies, and dissuaded many a district from bucking the well-oiled Darwin machine in the future.

That machine hailed Jones' ruling as a "masterpiece of wit, scholarship and clear thinking," and Time magazine listed the good judge as one of "the world's most influential people" in the category of "scientists and thinkers." But, in fact, Jones had lifted more than 90 percent of his discussion on ID virtually verbatim from the ACLU's proposed "Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law" submitted nearly a month before his ruling.

The NCSE and the ACLU would have known just how "exquisitely" the Smithsonian had handled peer review in the case of the Meyer article. They knew that there was not a "complete absence" of such articles, but merely a suppression of those that had been published. They obviously chose not to share that information with the judge.

Today, Dr. Richard Sternberg hangs on at the National Institutes of Health by his fingernails. "I have a position," he says wryly.

When I asked whether, he would have published Meyer's paper knowing what he now knows, he hesitates and says, "I am going to take the fifth on that one."

As to the Smithsonian, its continuous refusal to take action in the Sternberg case prompted the House Committee to recommend congressional action to "protect the free speech rights regarding evolution" among those scientists working at federally funded institutions.

Such is the exquisite state of evolutionary biology today.

I think it's poor form to discourage aliens to our land from learning the language necessary for success. If you care for people and want them to succeed around here, what's so impolite about encouraging them to become a part of our country by learning its language? Language ties us together—otherwise we have those who speak English and those who speak Spanish. That's not a good formula. How many successful Americans are there that can't speak English?

Why Liberals Hate Christians

Kevin McCullough wrote an essay on why liberals hate Christians. Here is his conclusion.

Evangelicals know that we are all sinners, none righteous but Him. He calls us to follow Him. We are expected to, and in doing so we will see that life's economy runs best when following His plan. We do not behead those who choose not to. We simply want them to know the joy, peace, contentment and purpose we find in Him.
And it is the reality in seeing the joy, peace, and contentment that we have and that they do not - that drives liberals to draw angry conclusions.

They also want a world with no moral judgments, and they hate that we draw moral absolutes from the Bible...that we actually BELIEVE that our positions are morally right and others are morally wrong. And, to be fair, everybody despises a hypocrite--and in today's media that so many leftists draw their information, that is how Christians are portrayed. It is easy to find and spotlight hypocrites in a group of people who hold themselves up as morally righteous when in fact we're all fallen and sinful. When the media finds a Christian whose sin has become public, they turn on the lights and roll the cameras for all to see. Since liberals hang out with liberals, they feed off of each others' thoughts, get their information from the same places, and draw the same conclusions. Their lack of exposure to real in-the-trenches Christians gives them no frame of reference whatsoever. So...maybe the next big mission field is in our own country. Maybe instead of sending so many people to Botswana, we just need to send missionaries to the left of our own country.

A young college student in our church just returned from a mission trip to Jakarta. I do believe that she was received better in this VERY Muslim city than she would be received in the liberal neighborhoods of San Fransisco.

Pelosi and Dems Moving to Restrict Church Speech

Their new chairs haven't yet grown accustomed to the rear ends of the Democratic leadership yet, and already Pelosi and company are moving to restrict church speech.

They are proposing legislation which would categorize churches as grassroots lobbying organizations. An excerpt from Jay Sekulow's column on this subject:

Under the House version of the Bill, a church or organization would be considered a “grassroots lobbying firm” subject to this law if the group attempted to influence the general public to voluntarily contact federal officials in order to express their own views on a federal issue. Furthermore, many large churches and ministries utilize mass media to communicate their message. Under this House Bill by Nancy Pelosi, these communications, as long as they are directed to at least one person who is not a member of the church, would fall under this new Bill. Finally, if the church spends an aggregate of only $50,000 or more for such efforts in a quarterly period, they are now required to register as lobbyists. Many ministries spend $50,000 or more a month for air time.

This attempt to slip in this onerous requirement on churches and other organizations must be stopped. The rationale behind Speaker Pelosi and others’ desire to silence churches is obvious. Pastors addressing the moral issues of the day have been able to mobilize tens of thousands of individuals to speak out on various issues. But under this proposed legislation, if a church or denomination spent $50,000 of its own resources on air time to encourage people to support the confirmation of federal judicial nominees or to lend its support to a federal marriage amendment, then that church or denomination would be classified as a grassroots lobbying firm.

Rushing to re-write science standards in Kansas

The new "moderate" majority on the Kansas School Board is rushing to re-write state science standards to be more evolution friendly.

Nothing like improving our education by promoting flawed science in the classroom. It doesn't matter that evolution as a theory of origins is deeply flawed, it's the flavor that scientists like to lick on the most so our children will learn it as fact anyway.

Embryonic stem cells found in amniotic fluid

Scientists have discovered the same kinds of stem cells that have until now only been found in embryos. Now they can possibly be extracted from amniotic fluid.

I'm glad this might lessen the demand for destroying human embryos, but I'm still waiting to see evidence that embryonic stem cells produces any medical benefit whatsoever--so far, nada. From what I can see, it's just a money grab. Federal dollars should not be spent in any way that devalues human life, nor should it be spent on projects that haven't yet yielded any real promise of remarkable breakthroughs. This is why we have a free market economy. If the concept of using these stem cells can produce a result that will make money for companies, then they should spend their own money to research it. Don't make me fund your baby-killing research with MY tax dollars.

Sebelius' pathetic non-action on Kline appointment

Not people's will

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' refusal to sign the certificate of appointment of Phill Kline as Johnson County district attorney was a slap in the face not only to Mr. Kline, but also to the duly elected Republican precinct committeemen and women who selected him. These men and women were simply fulfilling the responsibility entrusted to them by the people who elected them, their neighbors.

Of course, Gov. Sebelius claims that she did so "out of a deep and enduring respect for the will of the people." Since when does she care about the "will of the people"?

This is the same governor who twice vetoed a reasonable abortion clinic licensing bill that passed both chambers of the Legislature, who vetoed a concealed weapons bill passed overwhelmingly by the Legislature, and who vetoed a late-term abortion reporting bill. Does Gov. Sebelius think that the duly elected representatives and senators who passed these bills weren't doing the "will of the people"?

It is common knowledge that late-term abortionist George Tiller spent a lot of money to help defeat Phill Kline in the attorney general's race. The abortion industry had no such influence on the precinct committeemen and women who chose Mr. Kline for district attorney. Gov. Sebelius' whining about their selection makes it obvious that the only person whose "will" she cares about is George Tiller.

Dr. Roy Says Election a Defeat for Religionist Right

Dr. Bill Roy has spoken up again. He says, in his latest editorial, that the last election was the electorate voting against Christian candidates...choosing to shore up the wall between church and state by casting out those who govern by their Christian principles.

On a side note, my mother was a nurse and I grew up hearing about Dr. Bill Roy. My mother didn't think much of him. Never had a kind word for him. In fact, she said he was the rudest, most arrogant doctor in Topeka and treated nurses with contempt. But that's beside the point.

The point Dr. Roy forgets is that Republicans of all stripes lost in this past election. If they had an R after their name, they were in for trouble. I was disappointed that more evangelicals didn't turn up at the polls, but they'll be back.

Christian candidates believe that Biblical principles make good government. It was good enough when the founders used those principles to develop our form of government, so why shouldn't they stick to those principles when they run for office and govern after they are elected?

What's so offensive with using Biblical principles to govern? Why is it more agreeable for those whose morals are based on the religions of liberalism, secularism, atheism, etc.?

Happy Feet delivers an anti-Christian message to our kids

My wife and I took our two children and niece to see Happy Feet last night, lured by the promise of an endearing tale of penguins (my daughter's favorite animal) and amazing animation. Boy, was I disappointed. Not with the cute penguins and amazing animation, which were indeed very well done, but with being assaulted the entire time. This was nothing but a two-hour crusade against Christianity. It was an overtly political movie about environmentalism and humanism over Christianity.

The main character, Mumble, is different from others because he dances instead of sings. He is ostracized from the "elders" and blamed for the food shortage because their god wouldn't approve of his alternative lifestyle. These elders look more like vultures than penguins and are clearly representing the pious leaders of the Christian church. They actually make him choose to "turn or burn." He must "repent" of his ways and conform to their traditional views. The point is clear. Christians aren't accepting of people different from ourselves, won't allow them to be a part of our church, and are harsh and judgmental. I'm surprised Mumble didn't come "out" by the end of the movie as a homosexual penguin.

On his journey to discover the true reason why the fish supply is dwindling, he meets a televangelist-like penguin who accepts payment for words of wisdom and then hooks up with multiple penguins. The film actually depicts this character leaving his pulpit to go to the couch with four females, and he asks "Which one of you will be first?"

In fact, this movie has a LOT to say about sex...and a lot to sing about it too. It was very uncomfortable to watch adult and children penguins singing "You don't need to be beautiful to turn me on, I just need your body, baby, from dusk til dawn" and jamming to the very inappropriate "Let's Talk About Sex, Baby."

And then, to top off the attack on Christianity, the first building you see when Mumble and his friends come across the human fishing outpost is a dilapidated (obsolete?) Christian church with a cross on top, followed by scenes of garbage floating in the ocean. A church...in a fishing outpost in the antarctic. This building wasn't necessary in the film, except for the movie makers' not-so-subtle agenda.

Christians, don't be suckered in by penguins, Robin Williams' brilliant voice-overs, and incredible animation. This movie is an attack on YOU.

My biggest disappointment other than having wasted an evening that could have been spent in a much more enjoyable way, was having rewarded Hollywood for this attack on me. There’s nothing like paying someone to insult you! Do NOT make he same mistake. Stay away from this film and tell others to do the same.

Sen. Brownback addresses young Democrats

Sen. Sam Brownback addressed an assembly sponsored by the Young Democrats at Washburn Rural High School.

The main point I hope he got across to the kids is that war is hell, but freedom comes with a steep price. Our country today has no pain threshold. The sacrifices of Iraq pail in comparison to the sacrifices made in previous wars, but our enemies know that we don't have the stomach for protracted and painful wars. They can make a mess of things and send home some body bags, and we'll have half the country crying for us to pull out.

I don't like this war either. I wished we could have won in a week and left. But when it's all said and done, and we've got peace in Iraq, we'll have a valuable ally in the middle east--and a launching point for our war against Muslim terrorists.

The Bush administration is asking the Supreme Court to uphold a ban on the horrendous practice of partial birth abortion. Courts have struck down the law that Congress passed and Bush signed in 2003. Hopefully, now with a beefed up slightly more conservative court, we can get a Supreme court ruling that finally puts an end to this type of infanticide.

In typical Capital Journal fashion they cut off the last paragraph of that letter which contained, in my view, the final important point. It makes you wonder if they are simply journalistically inept, or if they are promoting their own agenda. Given that they have been publishing about two letters a week supporting Congressman Ryun while publishing about two per day supporting his opponent I think we all know the answer.

The cornerstone of Ms. Boyda’s campaign appears to be her personal perception of a wide-spread desire on the part of Kansas citizens for “change”. Any change. Change at any cost.
I personally do not think such a desire exists. However, voters would be wise to be careful what they ask for. They might get it, and the result is often far less satisfying than had been anticipated. Change, simply for the sake of change frequently produces unexpectedly negative consequences.

Like so many liberals, she seems to be long on rhetoric, yet very short on specifics regarding how those idealistic and naive notions would actually benefit Kansas families, our economy and our National security. She is equally short on the practical specifics about how those campaign promises would be implemented. She simply implies that if you don’t like things now, she’ll be happy to change them…somehow.

Much more is required to be a great legislator than is required to be a great
campaigner. Once you assume the responsibility of leadership it is no longer enough to simply push left-wing hot buttons, trumpet liberal sound bytes and bash the Administration. You actually have to do something. Effective representation requires a thorough knowledge of the complex social, economic and security issues that America faces today. Congressman Ryun has clearly demonstrated that he has that knowledge, and he has the experience to put it to effective use. It also requires the courage and leadership to make the hard decisions, as well as a genuine concern for how those decisions will affect constituents. Congressman Ryun’s record proves he has those qualities, and he has consistently voted to ensure those ideals. I’ve seen no evidence of such ability from his opponent. I think that’s a difference worth considering before you vote to change to someone who’s really never done anything except make campaign promises.

ProKanDo, the political action committee of Women's Health Care Services, the Wichita abortion clinic run by George Tiller, reported campaign spending of $304,108 from July 21 to Oct. 26. Its report showed spending of $81,247 on automated phone calls and another $95,700 in "member dues" to Kansans for Consumer Privacy Protection.

That is the group identified in a "Snoop Dog Kline" direct mail campaign accusing Kline of spending the last three years "snooping through women's private medical records on a personal crusade against abortion."

Like the direct mail flier, the ProKanDo phone message left with voters also takes Kline to task for his subpoenas of abortion medical records.

In the 2002 campaign, ProKanDo spent thousands of dollars in an unsuccessful attempt to beat Kline.

In addition to ProKanDo, Kansans for Life Saving Cures also has waded into the political fray with fliers that advocate Kline's defeat and urge support for Morrison and Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. This group reported raising $350,678 for the reporting period and spending $191,753.

GOP Motivation

I see that polls show the Democratic voters are highly motivated. There are good reasons for the GOP base to get stirred up as well:

The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that the state Legislature must create same-sex marriage or civil unions within 180 days. Once again, gay activists and liberal courts have dealt a major blow to supporters of traditional marriage. Congressional action to protect marriage will surely be needed in this coming term, and you won't find it in the Democratic party! You must keep a Republican controlled congress if you want to protect traditional marriage.

Homosexual couples from Kansas will be able to "marry" in New Jersey and return to challenge our state laws in federal court. Only congress can protect us from the activist robed crusaders.

Right-thinking Christians should also be moved to the polls because of John Kerry's off-handed remarks about the stupid people in the military stuck in Iraq. His remarks are a slap in the face to our nation's military heroes, made only worse by his attempt to say they were directed at the president and not the men and women in uniform and his refusal to apologize. Unfortunately, his views are representative of much of the left in this country, and we can't trust them to be in charge of our military efforts during this time of war.

Liberals and the media (they do go hand-in-hand, don't they?) have been trying to discourage Christians from voting this year (overblowing the Foley scandal, for one). They know what a difference Christian voters made in 2004. Don't give them this victory. Get to the polls and take your friends and family with you.

And spend time in prayer for our nation and for righteous candidates to come out victorious.

A battle of national importance is raging in the heartland of America. And every prolifer is needed on the field. There are actually two battles—one legal and one political—and they intersect at the office of Phill Kline, the courageous Attorney General for the State of Kansas.

For several years now Attorney General Kline has forged a new frontier in conducting an ongoing criminal investigation into the illegal abortion practices involving failure to report child rape to the proper authorities (as required by Kansas law). In simple terms, any child who is brought into an abortion clinic for an abortion has been the victim of child rape. Why, then, would anyone protect a child rapist over the safety of a child?

Needless to day, for daring to discharge the duties of his office Attorney General Kline has drawn the fury of Planned Parenthood and late-term abortionist George Tiller (known as "Tiller the Killer") of Wichita, both of whom are desperate to stop Kline's investigation and particularly his subpoena of the abortionists' medical records that relate to late term abortions and abortions of minors.

As the court battle rages on, Attorney General Kline finds himself in the crosshairs of Planned Parenthood and George Tiller as his bid for re-election culminates with the Novemeber 7 election just around the corner. The hypocrisy of the pro-abortion forces has reared its ugly head for as they now scream that Kline is on a witch hunt to violate the privacy of women patients (despite that all names by court order are to be expunged from the record before being handed over), the clinics themselves have the women sign a disclosure which reserves for the clinic the right to release the patient's name, address, phone number, and date of abortion to political fundraisers.

It is clear that Kline's effort could cripple every abortionist in America. Securing the proof that the abortionists failed to report child abuse and rape and/or that they committed criminal late-term abortions will likely lead to criminal prosecutions. The likely result could be jail time for the abortionist who ignored the laws. Additionally, Planned Parenthood could lose its federal funding (approximately $227 million just in the last calendar year).

All of this explains why the defeat of Phill Kline has become the number one priority of the pro-abortion industry nationwide. They clearly understand what is at stake here. They know that if Kline succeeds in his criminal investigation in Kansas all forty-nine other states will likely follow his lead. The Attorney General's office may just become the most coveted pro-life office in the land. You can bet if child rape is not being properly reported in Kansas, it is not being properly reported in other cities and states as well. Imagine Planned Parenthood losing its federal funding in every state.

I am still astounded that after 7 minutes Paul Morrison ripped the headphones off his head, slammed them on the table, then spun around and stormed out of the casino.For those of you that heard it live, or stood by with your mouths gaping (some 20 broadcasters witnessed the incident), or in my case sat in front of Mt. Saint Morrision, it was certainly a moment to remember. I felt a little like Tom Cruise (back when he wasn’t an alien, jumping on Oprah’s couch) in A Few Good Men, only I am not sure what actually happened to cause the Chernobyl like event.

We did not “waylay” or ambush him as a caller and a few emails have claimed, it is true Megan and I have disassembled many double talking politicos and government functionaries, occasionally for sport, but more often than not to hold them accountable for their actions or inaction in their capacity as a leader, but this was much different. He has nearly 26 years in the Johnson County DA’s office and about 100 jury trials, plus he is running for Kansas Attorney General. SO he may have been born at night, but it was not last night.His campaign attorney sent a letter last week to the broadcasters in this state threatening their broadcasting licenses if they continued airing a commercial that is critical of him.He arrives to debate Phill Kline at the Kansas Association of Broadcasters annual convention and a week prior agrees to do an interview after that debate with our show.
Preparation is everything, I passed on covering myself in camouflage paint and instead dawned my urban warfare motif consisting of a red long sleeve shirt, black khakis and of course what all the young terrorist are wearing, black Crocs. After seducing him into our lair with our warm welcome, which elicited nothing more than a grunt response, we toss a softball, how was the debate?
Seriously though, if asking him an obvious question about the threat he leveled against broadcast stations, at a prearrange live interview, at the annual convention of the people he threatened is an ambush, I am guilty as charged. (mental note: add Johnson to the list of counties not to get arrested in) This man acted like a bully from the onset of the interview, at one point even winked at me to drive home some sort of Machiavellian intimidation tactic. (mental note: Move Johnson to the top of list of counties not to get arrested in) I believe the audio speaks for itself all seven minutes of it, with a crescendo ending as he slams down his headset and storms off in the most astounding meltdown I have seen or heard in my 5 years of doing this show or in my 15 years of broadcasting. Can you imagine this man under real pressure?
ADDED: Mr Morrison chastise me on the Kansas Supreme ruling,HERE,After review it is clear again that Paul Morrison is not interested in the truth. In relation to Phill Kline, invading the privacy of patience it is spelled out clearly here:“Judge Anderson’s order also provided for certain precautions to guard against unnecessary disclosure of sensitive, confidential, or irrelevant information in the patient files:(1) The files were to be deposited in the district court and would not be disclosed to anyone, including the attorney general or his agents, until further court order;(2) the court would select special counsel to conduct an initial in camera review of the files and to assist in identifying sensitive, confidential, or irrelevant information; and(3) the court would require the attorney general to “nominate one or more licensed physicians to examine medical records” and to explain to the court the relevance of any document designated for photocopying. Judge Anderson also stated that the redaction of patient-identifying information would be considered before any copies of the files would be released. Finally, petitioners were to be given an opportunity to make suggestions regarding the management of the records to cause no broader intrusion into the patients’ privacy than necessary.”He then contends the KSC found it troubling that he wanted the private information, this too is a misstatement of what the court said. In fact the word troubling appears only twice in the entire ruling, and are in the same paragraph dealing with a gag-order place on the case:“Kline’s initial responses were troubling. He admitted that he attached sealed court records to a brief he knew would be unsealed; that he did so knowingly because, in his sole estimation, he believed it to be necessary to further his arguments; that he held a press conference on this criminal matter merely because he determined that petitioners had painted his previous actions in an unflattering light; and that he later permitted his staff to provide electronic copies of the sealed transcript to anyone who requested them. In essence, Kline has told this court that he did what he did simply because he believed that he knew best how he should behave, regardless of what this court had ordered, and that his priorities should trump whatever priorities this court had set. Furthermore, although there is conflict between the parties on exactly what was said in the press conference, i.e. whether the actual content of the sealed documents was discussed, Kline’s stated reason for holding the conference — to combat what he saw as unflattering earlier press coverage — does not appear to be among the permissible reasons for an attorney in his position to engage in extrajudicial statements under Kansas Rule of Professional Conduct 3.6 (2005 Kan. Ct. R. Annot. 473). This too is troubling.”
The media in this state has continued to allow Paul Morrison to continually misstates facts because of either sloth reporting or a bias against the current AG. This must stop, and I will continue to demand honest answers from people either seeking or holding public office on this program. It may be uncomfortable for some, but it is my duty to you and other listeners to bring these inconsistencies to light.

If Barnett doesn't have the money for a better quality ad, it's amazing he is able to gain any ground at all. But you can't argue with the point of this ad. Queen Sebelius has no problem whatsoever with rewarding illegals with drivers licenses, in-state college tuition and anything else that be a privilege of being a legal resident of Kansas.

Read this National Review article entitled The Red State Freak Show. The author, stationed in Europe, notes how over there abortion just isn't the big deal as it is in the U.S. and talks specifically about Kansas. In Europe, an area that most of consider to be very left-wing, there are basically no legal abortions after the first trimester. This was a law established by lawmakers--elected by the people--rather than imposed by the courts as we have here.

But if Kansas were in Europe, it would be a rogue state, isolated from others by the weirdness of its social policies.

AG race swings in Morrison's direction

This Capital Journal article refers to a new poll that shows Paul Morrison leading Phill Kline by 13 points! Morrison is funded by huge pro-abortion and pro-cloning forces outside the state, and Kansans are being suckered by his misleading ads about Kline seeking information from medical records of abortion clinics. The ads make it seem that Kline is seeking information on all procedures, but he is only seeking information on cases in which a minor child has an abortion because it is clear that a crime has been committed. If a 13 year old girl is pregnant, a crime has been committed, and only abortion clinics get a pass and aren't forced to report the crime. In many of these cases, it is a step father or other adult male that impregnated the girl and waits out in the car while the abortion they pay for is performed. If a counselor discovers evidence of child abuse, he/she is forced by law to report it to authorities, but abortion clinics see evidence of child abuse every day but cover up the evidence.

Do your best to support Phill Kline. Kansas is already the abortion capital of the country. We don't need Paul Morrison to exacerbate the situation.

Kansas Gubernatorial Campaigns on Matters of Faith

I would like to pass on to you two interesting visits I had with campaigns running for Kansas Governor.
First the Republican candidate. Sen. Jim Barnett’s campaign manager called and asked if Sen. Barnett could come by and visit about our issues concerning the dangers of pornography and its effects on our culture.
We spent a most enjoyable hour together discussing his faith, family, the power of a biblical message and the role of government in providing protection against evil (Romans 13:3,4). We discussed in great detail further measures to strengthen our resolve against the negative effects of the sex industry in Kansas. Long story short, Sen. Barnett made five powerful campaign promises that were sweeping in their scope to support legislation to further protect our children and families. Candidate Barnett had a keen understanding that more government will not ultimately solve our problem but it is a spiritual and character issue. I was honored that he took the time to personally visit, fully explore and discuss our concerns.
Now to the Democratic candidate. At roughly the same time I received a series of phone calls from the Democratic Party’s “Faith Based Coordinator”, Mr. James Salt. Mr. Salt and I discussed the same issues and the importance of the church, its message and its place in shaping and changing a culture. Mr. Salt could not understand my position of the importance of the church in this process. Mr. Salt interpreted everything I said in terms of a new social program in Kansas, of which he thought was a good idea. He even went as far as to say “the church was no longer relevant” in today’s culture and this problem. I asked Mr. Salt if he had any children or if he was married, he does not and he is not. I was taken back by such a shallow world view of the “faith based coordinator” for the Kansas Democratic Party.
If you have followed any of the news in Kansas for the past three years you know that the polls show that two out of three Kansas citizens believe that the dangers of over sexualized messages are real. The fruit of these debasing and addictive pornographic images are being reported daily in the media… another child abduction, another torture, another rape, and another life shattered. These graphic sexual images are the fuel that feeds fantasy driven behavior and in increasing frequency, even criminal behavior.
Last year we successfully passed some bills into law in Kansas. During one committee hearing, Dr. Kimball, the director of the state sex offenders program for the Kansas Department of Corrections testified that he estimated that about one third of the nine thousand Kansas prison inmates were incarcerated for sex offenses. The Kansas prison system is funded at a figure of nearly $50,000 per year, per inmate. This does not account for all the expenses incurred during the investigation and prosecution of a sex crime. Not to mention the trauma or death of another victim. You do the math, this is not only an issue that is eroding the character of our communities but it is a real pocket book issue.
The truth is we cannot pass enough laws or build enough prisons to fix this problem. The ultimate solution is you and I humbling ourselves, turning from our indifference, waking up and speaking out. Silence is consent.
Is Mr. Salt, as the voice of the Democratic Party’s faith based initiative correct that “the church is no longer relevant” and that another social program is what we need?
When you vote this November I would like for you to consider these two world views. Is it a character issue or a new social program?
As one citizen I can tell you that I am confidant that candidate Jim Barnett “gets it” and he has my vote.

Brownback on the Federal Marriage Amendment

"Same-sex marriage proponents argue that sexual orientation is like race, and that opponents of same-sex marriage are therefore like bigots who oppose interracial marriage. Once same-sex marriage becomes law, that understanding is likely to be controlling." Brownback pointed to a litany of potential negative consequences for traditional faiths: "So in states with same-sex marriage, religiously affiliated schools, adoption agencies, psychological clinics, social workers, marital counselors, etc. will be forced to choose between violating
their own deeply held beliefs and giving up government contracts, tax-exempt status, or even being denied the right to operate at all. ... It's already happening, as we've seen in Massachusetts with Boston's Catholic Charities being forced out of the adoption business entirely rather than violate church teaching on marriage and family."

The left shuts down debate by calling anyone who disagrees with their views a "bigot" or "homophobe" or whatever name suits their purpose for whatever cause they are supporting. It stifles the competing views because who wants to be called a bigot?

If gay marriage becomes law, no one will get married because "marriage" will be meaningless. You see it in the countries like Denmark where gay marriage is the law of the land. And, as Brownback says, it will hurt religious freedom because it will be illegal for Christian organizations to operate under their own belief systems without violating discrimination laws.

In Massachusetts, you can't be a Christian adoption service provider because you are forced to put children in the homes of homosexual couples even if it violates your basic religious principles. This has caused Catholic Charities to stop their longstanding service of helping orphans and adoption candidates to find permanent homes.

When we fought to keep our local government from writing into ordinances "anti-discrimination" rules for homosexuals, we were called bigots. But it's clear that any effort to put homosexuals in a protected class, along with those based on gender and color, leads down this road.

These types of laws put religious organizations in the precarious position of violating their own belief systems to adhere to the law--which is a heavy-handed way for government to strip away our religious liberties.

Believe it or not, I know gay people--and they have adopted children. I think they are very nice people and I believe they are better parents than many heterosexual couples out there. It's not a natural system of parenting...that's for sure...but it's better than children being placed in foster home after foster home, and it's better than being placed with an abusive or neglectful heterosexual home. But here comes the big BUT...

But religious organizations shouldn't be forced to violate their beliefs to make such adoptions possible. They should be free to find good heterosexual homes--the IDEAL situation for children--and continue to do their terrific service to their communities and families.

It's very important that you support any efforts to protect the sanctity of marriage. If we lose marriage, it's not a far leap before government forces Christian institutions to provide housing, adoption services, etc. to gay couples in clear violation of their religious liberties.

Liberals treat Jesus as simply a moral philosopher who taught social justice for the poor, rather than dying for our sins and fulfilling the laws of the Old Testament. Certainly Jesus would be a socialist like them, right? The government should care for its people more.

Today I went to the Governor ' s office in Topeka and confirmed the following: The two little unconstitutional words "sexually provocative" were struck from the Kansas Obscenity Statute and signed by the Governor. This was the one little fly in the soup that caused so many prosecutors and courts to hesitate, make excuse or refuse to prosecute the pornography outlets in their cities.

You and your local prosecutor can now move forward to begin "promotion of obscenity" charges. First we fixed the Grand Jury petition to make it easier (2005) and now the obscenity law itself has been fixed.

The following cities are now free to finish what they have begun:

Abilene: the judge found in favor for the prosecutor on all points but this one flaw, now ask the County Attorney to prosecute again.

Wilson: A guilty verdict was rendered but is the appeal process and the court was waiting for the flaw to be fixed. By the way I ran into your State Representative Josh Svaty and he was eager to share that things are moving to pass a county SOB ordinance to protect you from the now vacant porn shop from becoming another one next week. Good work, keep up the pressure!

Concordia: No reason to wait now, two porn outlets down and three more to go.

Great Bend: The three porn shops on your main street should be having a hog roast to raise money for a defense attorney.

Hays: You are clear for take off! Look out Hays, the Lions Den porn shop is looking for an interstate location when they shut down in Abilene and I don't think you have an SOB ordinance to protect you yet.

Salina: You have one more shop on the interstate that was untouched in the last Grand Jury petition, so let your County Attorney have another go at it. After all, the other two porn shops on either side of you on the interstate are now closed or must be gone by mid December.

Topeka : Your DA is chomping at the bit for the Grand Jury you have empanelled and is eager and able to get started, your work in Shawnee County is about to shake the state. Everyone...WATCH TOPEKA!

Hutchinson : Kind of quite down there but we hope to hear good things from you.

Wichita : I predict your current obscenity trial against Priscilla's porn outlet will soon stop treading water in pre trial continuances and be moving forward.

Pittsburg: You are a small group but you have a big God, be bold!

McPherson: You have only one porn outlet but now is your chance.

Manhattan: The embers of your fire are about to combust, contact Pastor Dennis Ulrey @ 776-9069. To think a porn shop is just yards away from a Church and a grade school in your County should have you in anguish.

Tyrannical Judges Squashing Public Viewpoints on Marriage Protection

The "Men in Black" are squashing the public's nationwide demand for protection of traditional marriage. A Georgia Superior Court Judge, Constance C. Russell, denied Georgians their voice on the matter: 76% of the voters for a constitutional amendment aimed at defining marriage between one man and one woman had their collective voices silenced by one stroke of his pen.

In 1973, other men in black didn't give Americans a voice on the subject of abortion, with their ridiculous ruling in Roe v. Wade--and Americans have been fighting ever since instead of working toward a reasonable legislative solution.

The same will happen with marriage. By forcing their liberal ideology on the rest of Americans instead of letting the matter be settled through the legislative process, they are setting us up for decades of cultural warfare.

New Minimum Marriage Age in Kansas

Kansas' governor signed a measure Wednesday setting 15 as the minimum marriage age, prompted by the case of a pregnant 14-year-old from Nebraska who came to the state to marry her 22-year-old boyfriend.

In the old days, 14 years was pretty much "marrying" age for girls. Based on the 14 year old girls I know today, I can't imagine the girls of yore were as ill-prepared for marriage as those of today.

I don't know what is so magic about 15--it's either arbitrary or one year older than the girl mentioned in the story.

My Easter Certainty

Many of us struggle with our belief in Christ's resurrection from time-to-time. Is there a central truth--evidence of Jesus' return from death and public appearances--that confirms your faith in the Easter story?

Here is mine: before the crucifixion, Jesus' apostles were always missing the point and asking the wrong questions. What a ragtag bunch. They saw him perform miracles and heard his wonderous teachings and yet Jesus remarked "How much longer do I have to put up with you schmucks?" (ok, that's a paraphrase). After the crucifixion, Peter denied that he knew Jesus three times. They ran and hid, trying to figure out what to do next.

And then He arose. And they saw him. They touched him. And this ragtag bunch of miscreants went out and changed the world and, most of them, were tortured and put to death for their actions.

If they hadn't seen him alive again and they weren't so certain in the truth of the resurrection, would they have subjected themselves to the mercy of the state for the Gospel of Christ?

It's doubtful, considering their behavior BEFORE they saw Jesus alive and among them following the resurrection. Their change of behavior, to me, is proof that the resurrection happened. If they hadn't seen him post-resurrection, they could have quietly disappeared into the crowd and lived out their lives in obscurity.

He Arose! Thank God!

Abortion opponents on Friday presented the Sedgwick County court with a petition bearing 7,754 local signatures, far more than needed to force a grand jury to investigate the case of a mentally retarded woman who died after having a late-term abortion.

Roe v. Wade for men

Read this compelling article on a lawsuit by a fella claiming that his rights are violated by having parenthood forced upon him in a way that women would never face. Here is an amazing quote:

More than three decades ago Roe vs. Wade gave women control of their reproductive lives but nothing in the law changed for men. Women can now have sexual intimacy without sacrificing reproductive choice. Women now have the freedom and security to enjoy lovemaking without the fear of forced procreation. Women now have control of their lives after an unplanned conception. But men are routinely forced to give up control, forced to be financially responsible for choices only women are permitted to make, forced to relinquish reproductive choice as the price of intimacy.

What arguments can the feminists make against this statement?

As Christians, we should believe in taking responsibility for our actions. If you screw around with someone you don't want to co-parent a child with, you must be responsible for any child that results. Feminists have shunned this responsibility for decades--ladies can simply abort the consequences, or go through with them and force parenthood upon their male counterpart. It's amusing now that a man is claiming the same right to avoid responsibility for his actions.

Alabama Church Fires

Where's the outcry and charges of "hate crimes"? Oh...they weren't all black churches (and they weren't gay churches) so it couldn't possibly have been motivated by hate.

This is the lunacy of so-called hate crimes. Obviously these two young men were driven by some animosity toward Christians, Baptists or something else that links them together...but we're not going to judge them on the feelings that motivated them because Baptists aren't a "protected class." So BURN AWAY and you'll be punished according to the regular laws on the books.

It's a good thing for them they weren't burning gay bars or their potential penalty would have been much greater.
